Enjoy our special post about a career as a Meme maker.....

Marketing has taken a completely different form in the age of social media where memes are always the hot topic with templates changing from time to time. Memes have become a way of communication between people and corporations have started to adopt this to communicate with their prospective customers.

A lot of new-age tech startups like Zomato, Dunzo, Bounce, etc. have started using memes to reach out to consumers through Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram handles and with social media making it much easier to have two-way communication with the general public, brands are using memes more than ever.

A lot of large traditional corporations like Mumbai Police, Cisco, Pepsi have joined the bandwagon as they also have started sharing memes to connect with users. Even public institutions as the police personnel of many cities have started to share memes from their official social media handles to spread awareness and inform the public about their work.

Memes have proven to be a great way of digital marketing as it has many advantages with the first and foremost being that it’s cheap to make memes. All it takes it to add text to an image, gif, or short video. Memes are funny and people are able to relate to memes and the consumer feels a sense of belonging with the company which fosters a community among the followers as all the people are able to relate to the situation mentioned and it becomes a sort of an inside joke for the community. Also, it helps you reach a wider audience as by definition memes are supposed to be shared so people who liked the meme will share it with their peers thus promoting your brand and often expressing to their peers that they are a follower of this brand. More than direct publicity, promotional visits, and advertisements online and offline the brands now are moving towards extensive social media advertising. Memes are generally on trending topics so your brand will feel more authentic and fresh to the consumers.

Meme making has already become a lucrative career option as more and more companies want to use memes to reach out to their audience particularly to the 18-25 age category. A lot of brands and digital marketing firms are hiring memes creators in their marketing team. A simple google search will show more than 100s of job posting for the requirement of a meme creator. The social media advertising industry in India is around USD 772 million and is expected to show an annual growth rate (CAGR 2020-2024) of 7.3%, resulting in a market volume of US$1,025m by 2024. Recently a US beer brewing brand called Bud Light was hiring for a Chief Meme Officer.

A freelancer meme can make up to 7-10 thousand rupees in a month while a full timer’s monthly salary starts at 20 thousand rupees and goes up to 12 lakhs and more in a year. Depending upon the workplace and experience a person gets paid. A Facebook or an Instagram page with a few thousand followers can be a good source of secondary income as brands regularly approach these pages for paid promotion. The good thing about the job is that no prior experience is required as it all depends on the mind and the wit of the person. One can be still in college and one can be an industry veteran, the social media account will be his resume. So if you’re someone who has a knack of generating funny and relatable content for the targeted audience then you can surely give it a try. (For applying at related jobs, click
